The ClearScience Challenge was created as a precursor to the Calgary Youth Science Fair (CYSF) in order to give participants quality advice from experienced judges that know what criteria the CYSF looks for, as well as professionals that give general advice towards solutions. The challenge educates youth on real world problems, allowing their innovation to shine as they introduce ideas that could benefit the community around them, in a manner similar to the CYSF. However, we felt that the CYSF was missing an integral part to their competition, which is public speaking. When pitching/explaining a scientific idea to others, it is imperative that the presenter has effective public speaking skills to convey information in a concise manner. Because this is very underemphasized in the CYSF, the ClearScience competition blends both scientific innovation with public speaking to bring the best of both worlds.
